Workers’ compensation is a state-mandated program that provides financial and medical benefits to employees who suffer job-related injuries or illnesses. Each state has its own specific laws and requirements regarding workers’ compensation coverage, which often include mandatory notices to post in the workplace. The state of Washington recently released an updated version of its workers’ compensation notice.
What Has Changed
Most of the updates are new website addresses and phone numbers. However, there are some changes to the workers’ compensation program, including:
- ophthalmologists and physician assistants are no longer considered qualified health-care providers; and,
- beginning July 1, 2025, employees may choose a physician assistant or, for claims solely for mental health conditions, a psychologist.
What Must Employers Do
Employers are legally required to display the new Workers’ Compensation poster in their workplace to inform employees of their rights and responsibilities under the law.
