The New York State Division of Human Rights released a revised discrimination poster adding a protected class, providing additional protections, and extending the statute of limitations for filing a discrimination claim.

New York Discrimination Law Update

  • Added protected class for citizenship or immigration status
  • Additional coverage for domestic workers; interns and nonemployees working in the workplace
  • Education institutions to include for-profit colleges, universities, licensed private career schools or certified English as a second language schools
  • Statute of limitations extended from one year to three years; complaints for acts of discrimination that occur on or after 2/15/2024 may be filed within three years of the alleged act.

New York Labor Law Poster Update

All businesses within the State of New York must display the new “Human Rights” poster along with other state-mandated posting requirements where they are sufficiently accessible and viewable to all employees. This change has been reflected in our New York & Federal Labor Law Poster and requires an immediate mandatory update.
